Discovering magic in every strum, my Hanika guitar adventure begins..
Hello friends, it’s Lorin Nicholson here, your blind guitarist and eternal optimist, creating beautiful music from the heart of Brisbane Australia. For over twenty years, the classical guitar has been my soulmate, guiding me through times of trouble and triumph, with its warm resonant whispers, from the sun drenched living room, right up to the national stage at Carols by Candlelight. Each note has been a triumph over the shadows of retinitis pigmentosa. But this week something incredible happened.
Earlier this year at the buzzing Melbourne guitar show, fate handed me my very first Armin Hanika classical guitar from Germany. As my hands caressed the impeccable polished neck, body and strings, a thrill of delight ran through me, as the music began effortlessly flowing from my fingers, through this master grade instrument and out to an equally captive audience gathering before me.
Fast forward to this week, two stunning new custom built Hanika guitars arrived on my doorstep. A couple of beautiful lattice braced instruments with premium grade spruce sound board, and master grade Ziricote back and sides, in deluxe carbon fibre cases. I’ve unboxed them, tuned them and couldn’t restrain my hands from exploring every polished curve and contour. One guitar hums with an intimate and romantic warmth that fills your soul, whilst the other bursts forth with a resonant fullness and projection that could light up any concert hall.
But here is my dilemma, I am now torn in deciding which one should stay and which one do I bid farewell? The first strum on both guitars is pure revelation.
